Larry G. Maguire | Writer
Hello, I’m Larry G. Maguire, writer, occasional portrait artist and creator of The Artist’s Manifesto website. I hail from Dublin, Ireland where I live with my wife Joanne and three kids, Ruairí, Cian, and Cara. I operate a business of one and I am a psychologist in training at DBS Aungier St. Dublin.
I’m an ardent proponent of artistic freedom, creativity, and the importance of doing our work with passion and integrity in spite of uncongenial circumstances, lack of applause or outside recognition. As such, I wrote The Artist’s Manifesto; a creative philosophy for life and work.
We live in a world that encourages sameness, mediocrity and adherence to societal norms. These things are detrimental to creative pursuits and personal growth. And so, I believe there is an ever-increasing imperative for us to seek out and immerse ourselves in complex and fulfilling work solely for the sake of it.
The purpose of The Artist’s Manifesto book and this website is to promote this philosophy and its fundamental principle; Purposeful Accident.
The Artist’s Manifesto
The fundamental creative principle of Purposeful Accident presents a creative philosophy that may help you find release from the relentless assault of outside influences. Influences such as peer and family opinion, lack of material success, mass market demands and self-imposed pressure to perform.
Purposeful Accident is the coming about of favourable conditions in response to playful, yet immersive and purposeful practice within a given domain. Purposeful Accident is the materialisation of all good things by merely creating for the sake of it, right now, with no ulterior motive.
I write regularly on these and related topics and send my readers the weekly Sunday Letters newsletter. Buy the book or join for free to get the weekly Sunday Letters article.
